If there's such a thing as a six-star villa complex, the Villa Semarapura at Cemagi, on Bali's west coast, is it. My family and I were lucky enough to spend several days here as part of a wedding party, as the villa was the wedding venue. It's really hard to know where to begin with this place, but it's probably with the things you should note before you consider it as a holiday option. First, you have to book the entire complex for any stay here - so that means you need to book all five suites within the villa. That means you need a decent group of family and friends to get involved here, and a reasonable length for your stay. Second, the location. Cemagi, where the villa is located, is fairly remote and well away from Kuta and Seminyak. It's about halfway between Tanah Lot and Echo Beach - a 20-minute drive to either. There's no Mini Marts or Circle Ks or restaurants or warungs near the complex, so to venture outside you will have to arrange transport to and from. That said, the villa's amazing staff can get in whatever you need for a price, and there are cooks on site to prepare all meals and staff to serve them. The quality of the food prepared at Villa Semarapura - breakfast, lunch or dinner - is as good or better than anywhere on Bali. Absolute five-star feeds. So why bother to go out? Or you can bring in drinks and food of your choice when you arrive, then get the staff to serve you as required. If those caveats tick your boxes, and if you want a magical, unforgettable experience for you and your nearest and dearest, you seriously need to consider Villa Semarapura. The suites are just brilliant. The master suite comes with a jacuzzi and is sensational. Next there's a two-storey suite which can be used as a single villa or two separate ones, with separate entrances. It's ideal for a small family group as there's two bedrooms within this one - one on each floor. It also has what appears to be a nanny's quarters within it! There's also two other one-bedroom suites on the property. All have great beds, plenty of space, nice bathrooms, a decent sized bath, plus indoor and outdoor showers. The suites have plenty of space within, but there also several wonderful communal areas around the impressive grounds that you'll probably prefer to spend your time in. There's a roofed, upstairs area with plenty of seating for relaxing, having a quiet drink or a coffee, reading, or watching the activity in the gardens or pool below. The pool is superb - about 1.5 metre at its deepest. It's big enough for doing laps, with two shallower pools adjoining the deep one perfect for smaller visitors. It's pristine, and the cleanest pool I've ever seen in 15 years of coming to Bali. The pool has lilos/sun lounges and a double sunbed for soaking up the sun poolside. There's also a shaded downstairs area adjoining a pool bar (staffed when you want it) for relaxing out of the sun. The gardens are immaculate and large, with a large hut at the top of a hill offering beautiful ocean views. It's a great get-away-from-it-all spot. There's also a real massage hut on-site and massages can be booked to come to you at the villas for a reasonable fee. A media room with TV, sound system, and pool table is also on-site. As if there wasn't enough communal space, there's also a dining room area overlooking the whole complex in which the amazing meals prepared on-site are served. There's also 24-hour security on-site, so you feel safe always. Sounds great doesn't it? It feels even better when you are there, and it was an absolute privilege to stay at Villa Semarapura. Eddy, Sudiarna, Surya and the rest of the staff go out of their way to help with every request, do a brilliant job, and are genuinely nice people to boot. It was the most spectacular venue for a wedding you could imagine. Downsides are few. You'll find a bit of interesting wildlife roaming the gardens, including a very large lizard, a big crab (yes, crab!) in the water surrounding one of the villas, and we witnessed a large cat of some description come into the gardens and snaffle a baby bird. It was like watching the National Geographic channel in real-life at times. The animals don't bother the guests though. There are plenty of large insects around the property. All rooms are sprayed nightly and there are electronic insect zappers in each room so the mosquitos are less of an issue here than many other parts of Bali. But use the communal areas at dawn and dusk and you'll need to have some personal insect repellent applied, or handy. And while the outdoor shower is a great concept, we found it was totally impractical because of the insects outside and the likelihood of being heavily bitten by mosquitos if you used it. But Villa Semarapura overall is a magical experience that I wish everyone could have at least once in their lives. Great facilities, great staff, exceptional food - the Bali villa equivalent of a drive in a Lamborghini. For most of us, it can't and won't be our everyday existence, but it sure makes you feel alive when you do it! And if you can do it, do it at least once, and more if you can!

From the moment we were greeted at the front of Semarapura we felt nothing but relaxed and catered to. The grounds, view, staff, linen- everything was to the utmost luxurious standard. The staff were attentive and kind but never invasive. They were there to help, and they genuinely were more than happy to! They made all the guests feel at ease and we never lifted a finger. The manager-Edi, was so professional and informative, he knew everything there was to know from Bali history to the newest hip bar to try! Semarapura is a complete treat to the soul. It felt very much like the old Bali. It was quiet, and its own sanctuary. Absolutely everything was kept immaculate- lawn/gardens, pool, fittings, linen. All 5 star quality and kept in such great condition. We enjoyed all of the extra facilities. Massage, private yoga class and sensational 5 course seafood buffet. All were the best we have experienced. I could not fault this Villa at all. They had everything down to a fine art!! It was a true indulgence and we will be back to experience it every year! If you are looking to travel to Bali, this is where you need to be!!

An absolutely faultless experience! Honestly, I don't know where to start: The staff were sensational, from Eddie the Manager to Gede the gardener. Everyone was so smiley, friendly and hospitable. We genuinely felt like we had made 13 new friends and leaving them was a sad moment. You really can tell that they genuinely love and are thankful for their job at Semarapura. There was 11 people in our group and they knew all our names within the first few hours of being there. They would use our names correctly each and every time we spoke with them. What a skill! The villa itself is spectacular! The grounds are immaculate and the rooms all very well maintained and impeccably clean. The staff tell us that it has recently had a renovation and the new owners then went though and replaced all the furniture. So while the buildings themselves are approximately 8 years old, it feels like new. The beds were a highlight for all of us and we found ourselves commenting daily just how good they were. If they sold the pillows, we would have gone home with at least one each. They were that good! We stayed for just 4 nights and it didn't feel like long enough. There are so many great places to sit and relax, I feel like it would take two weeks to make your way around all the great locations to recline in the various settings. Instead we found ourselves predominantly in the pool and lazing around the bar listening to music on their awesome sound system playing throughout the complex. A mention needs to be made also of the food. It was excellent Well done Kadek and Eddie (2). There was 4 vegetarians in our group and they were able to modify many great meals to accommodate those guests. I highlight was the Tempeh burgers. Yum!!! Other things to note: the pool was crystal clean and warm, the air conditioning was nice and cold in all rooms, the beers were kept icy cold, they even kept fresh coconuts in the fridges for us to drink cold, the cocktails they made were delicious and there is no passing traffic; so no scooter or car noises, only crashing waves. We felt so safe that no one in our group locked our rooms, or locked items in the safes (of which there was one in each villa). There was always fresh dry towels each time we swam, they even had a volleyball net which we played a game with the staff once. The massages were also some of the best we have had in Bali and really well priced. If there was any negative it was only that there were a lot of mosquitos. In reality this is because of the season that we stayed there and so not entirely the villas fault. When we brought it to the staffs attention they did do some fogging but it was a real issue for some of our group who were like magnets for getting bitten. Despite having stayed in some amazing places in Bali before, we often say that we would not stay twice at the same place because there are so many great places to stay, well Semarapura breaks that mindset for us. We would gladly stay there again despite whatever else opened because it was such a faultless experience.

We were a party of 11 (6A,5C) and had plenty of room to roam around the Villa without getting on top of each other. Rooms were very comfortable and luxurious with all amenities catered for. Staff were attentive, friendly, gracious and professional.

The villa and its service were beyond our expectations. From the moment we entered the villa, the staff greeted us with such warmness that made us felt at home with them. The staff met all our needs, provided us with local delicacies, local gifts and local services such as transportation and massage. The villa itself is exceptionally beautiful and well maintained. There is a private massage area just for you and you can engage the service of traditional masseur at affordable price. From the villa you have magnificent view of the ocean and the temple and the staff can take you into the temple. Compliment to the chef and the staff for provided us with unforgettable feasts. Our candlelight dinner was amazing and wonderfully delicious. The staff transformed the patio into an intimate outdoor dining area. I will recommend their specialties, Balinese Style Chicken Salad, Chocolate Lava Cake, and Orange Juice (the best orange juice ever) :) You will never get enough of this place, it will make you come back for more.
