Morocco

Bordering the Atlantic Coast and the Mediterranean, bound by outstretching coastline, roaring canyons and a hint of the Sahara Desert, there are spoils of contrasting landscapes to explore in Morocco. Typified for its abundance of cultures with Berber, Arabic and European influences, it’s fitting that Morocco is located on the North-west tip of Africa, only a few clicks away from the tip of Spain and Europe. Weave in the hocus pocus Jemaa el-Fna market in Marrakech, the ‘Santorini of Africa’ under the shadow of the Rif Mountains and endless pots of authentic tagine; it’s impossible to ignore Morocco as an epic cultural destination.

A land of myriad contrasts, Morocco is one of Africa’s most preferred tourist destinations. With a beautiful coast on one side and a desert on the other, the country is also home to Toubkal, the highest peak in the majestic Atlas Mountains as well as in North Africa. Morocco is a gateway to Africa and a country of dizzying diversity. Here you'll find epic mountain ranges, ancient cities, sweeping deserts – and warm hospitality.

Popular areas in Morocco

Morocco has four imperial cities: Marrakesh, Fes, Meknes, and Rabat. Rabat is the current capital city. Although a modern city at first glance, it has several interesting historical attractions, such as the Kasbah of the Oudaias, the old medina, and the Hassan Tower. The gleaming Royal Mausoleum is also well worth a visit.

Known as the Red City, Marrakesh is famous for its old medina, numerous souks, ancient palaces like Badi Palace and Bahia Palace, the striking Koutoubia Mosque, the energetic Djemaa el-Fna, and the Saadian Tombs. The former capital of Fes boasts plenty of stunning architecture, though it is perhaps most known for its large tanneries and for being home to one of the oldest universities in the world. Meknes has one of the most impressive monumental gates in all of Morocco, Bab el-Mansour. Horse-drawn carriages are a great way to explore the charming and relaxed imperial city.

Things to do in Morocco

Morocco, the North African country, is an eclectic destination with something for everyone. From skiing to desert sand-boarding, there are endless opportunities for adventure; while culture vultures will relish the incredible history to be found in the country's Imperial Cities. Off-the-beaten-track destinations like Chefchaouen encourage rest and relaxation, while the coastal towns of Taghazout and Essaouira promise beautiful beaches and rewarding surf spots.

Morocco is a country made for explorers of the great outdoors. Hike in North Africa's best mountain ranges, trek by camel into the sand dunes of the Sahara, surf along its beaches – and after you're done, scrub off your exertions at a traditional hammam. Morocco’s diverse terrain means there are many outdoor activities on offer besides trekking. Birdwatching enthusiasts, cyclists, climbers, and horse riders will all find options to challenge and excite. Another bonus: whether you’re skiing, surfing or camel trekking, between activities you can enjoy the Moroccan culture and hospitality.

Family fun in Morocco

Morocco is a family-friendly country and the perfect choice for travelers with kids. Whether you are planning Morocco vacation as a younger family or traveling with older children Morocco has a wealth of adventure activities and things to do with kids. There are many exciting activities that serve as family tour essentials on a private tour not to be missed. Moroccans love children and much of the culture revolves around family.
