Samoa

Samoa island nation is located in the South Pacific Ocean, roughly situated midway between Hawaii and New Zealand and is part of Polynesia. It is created by volcanic explosions though today none of the volcanoes are currently active, yet small earthquakes often rock the island. Samoa is a beautiful paradox in that despite its intense natural beauty with its shimmering seas, dense jungles and fairyland waterfalls it has managed to maintain a humble profile, devoid of mega-resorts and loud attractions. Its population is around 195,000 but a lot of Samoans live outside the country, particularly in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. The two main islands of Samoa complex are Upolu and Savaii. The capital is Apia, and the international airport is found on Upolu.

Popular Areas in Samoa

The capital of Samoa Apia, a charming colonial-style town, is located in Upolu and is where most of the action takes place. Despite its small size, it has a good share of restaurants, clubs, markets, shops as well as cultural attractions.

The two main islands as mentioned above that gather the main body of tourism, are Upolu and Savaii. Apart from those, there are world-famous beaches, such as Royale Takitumu which is Rarotonga's premier white sand beach, Lalomanu Beach and Manase Beach which offer various sports activities.

Things to do in Samoa

A must visit is Palolo Deep National Marine Reserve for those who enjoy snorkeling and swimming in emerald waters and are willing to explore a rich seabed with lovely tropical fishes. The Dwarves Cave is a spectacular attraction that is known as the most mysterious landmark developed due to volcanic action. Papaseea Sliding Rocks, about 15 minutes from the capital Apia are going to be fun, sliding down the naturally developed rock slides.

If birdwatching is your thing, then don’t skip a visit to the Tafua Peninsula Rainforest Preserve in Ulopu Island with some of the rarest species of birds. Alofaaga Blowholes is a must-do attraction situated on the Savaii island, where the water expels and rises hundreds of feet up through these amazing blowholes into the air with great intensity.

Saleaula Lava Fields is one of the most famous attractions situated on the north coast of the Savaii, where you can find ruins of the Saleaaula village, destroyed due to the volcanic activity in 1905. Papapapai-Tai Falls is one of the most breathtaking cascades and stunning natural landscapes in the entire South Pacific region, which are more than 100 meters tall.

If you are a hiking lover do not omit the O Le Pupu-Pui National Park when in Samoa with its various fascinating hiking trails. For a touch of history, visit the famous Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson Museum.
