Japan

Japan gives out the sense of being timeless, a place where ancient traditions and culture are fused with modern life. It is an island country lying off the east coast of Asia. It consists of a great string of islands in the North Pacific Ocean. Almost the entire land area is covered by the country’s four main islands; Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu with Honshu being the largest of the four. The Japanese landscape is rocky, with more than four-fifths of the land surface consisting of mountains. There are many active and dormant volcanoes. Since 1950, Japan has emerged as one of the world’s most economically and technologically advanced societies. Heavy emphasis is placed on education, and Japan is one of the world’s most literate countries.

Popular areas in Japan

Tokyo would be the first on the list since it is one of the world’s most vibrant, exciting and eclectic cities, full of amazing restaurants, beautiful gardens, cutting-edge architecture and almost a post-modern cityscape adorned with neon lights.

For history lovers, Hiroshima is a must-visit, famous for being the site of one of two atomic bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the Second World War. Several interesting memorials are found in the area.

Miyajima Island is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site located just outside of Hiroshima. The island is home to the historic Itsukushima Shrine, which was originally founded in the 6th century and has long been one of Japan’s most sacred sites.

Kyoto is one of the most culturally rich cities in the world and in vivid contrast with Tokyo. In Kyoto, travelers will find generations-old craft shops and restaurants, majestic ancient temples and gardens.

Osaka, on the other hand, is a cosmopolitan city which has to offer great culinary journeys and frenzy nightlife, located just 30 miles from Kyoto.

Things to do in Japan

Mt. Fuji is one of the most iconic sights in Japan, so it should be on the top of your list. Kyoto is known for its unique landmarks, such as a large wooden temple and several statues and shrines. Travelers can also take a trip from Kyoto to Nara, a place where visitors can see elegant deer in the region's deer park. Tokyo has a number of renowned attractions as well, such as the Tokyo Tower, from which visitors can view the city from the observation deck. Travelers will be able to see the Imperial Palace Plaza and the various waterways surrounding it. From Tokyo, visitors can view more of Japan's natural beauty. An excursion takes participants to waterfalls and shrines found at Kegon and Nikko. Again, the options are myriads, depending on your interests and tastes.

Family fun in Japan

Japan is a safe, clean and very exciting country for all ages and is ideal for a great family holiday. There’s plenty to keep children of all ages entertained. Himeji Castle is the largest castle of Japan, dating back to the 17th century and will be an interesting journey back in time for younger and older visitors. Tokyo Disneyland and Disneysea in Chiba are large theme parks, based on Disneyland with attractions for every age group. Miraikan, Tokyo is a futuristic national science museum which includes activities for kids, exhibitions with robots and many more.
