Malaga Province

Malaga City is capital of the astounding Costa del Sol and not without a good reason! It is the second most populous city in Andalusia, Spain about 100km east from the Strait of Gibraltar and it borders the provinces of Cadiz, Seville, Cordoba, and Granada. With an average temperature that doesn’t fall below 22 degrees, Malaga prides itself for having Europe’s best climate and 330 days of sunshine! Its great variety of cultural life with museums, its delightful pedestrianized center, and its innovative restaurants and stylish hotels with rooftop lounges boasting stunning views as well as the bohemian SOHO region are just some of the many reasons to make it your holiday destination!

The city has been greatly boosted by the opening of the Picasso Museum in 2003 which led to its cultural rebirth and blossom, and visitors are now flocking to this port city to enjoy culture, top-class cuisine and fascinating monuments, from Moorish and Roman times to modern day never losing its authentic Andalucian flair.

The city of Malaga is rich in history that has survived from World War 2 and this is displayed in landmarks such as Alcazaba, the ancient site of the Moorish royal palace with a magnificent terrace and groomed garden brilliant relics of the Arab occupation. The castle of Gibralfaro is perched high on a hilltop and gives a spectacular view of the city. Other nearby attractions are the Roman Theatre, the old Jewish quarter, the Cathedral, and the Church of Santiago in mudéjar style. A popular walk follows the Paseo del Parque (a promenade that runs alongside a grand park with many palm trees and statues) to the harbour, ending in Calle Larios, the main commercial street of the city. There is also a curious museum, the Museum of the Holy Week, which includes an impressive display of Baroque ecclesiastical items. Downtown Malaga is an eclectic mix of old and modern elements, with elegant boutiques, sophisticated restaurants, broad avenues and adorned squares. Head east of Malaga’s center to find the beach La Malagueta, where you can try local dishes and fresh seafood.
